Some of the best plants for filtering your pond water fall into this group.  Floating water plants require no potting...they simply float on top of the water, with their roots dangling into the water absorbing the nutrients.  They are very effective for shading the pond and protecting your fish from the intense sun and predators, such as the Great Blue Heron.
